Keeping an updated Will

Arnhem Veteran with CWGF guides at Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery

Having an updated Will ensures your loved ones and the causes you support are cared for after you’re gone.

A Will does not have to be an incredibly extensive, detailed document. Even the most basic outline your intentions and wishes can give you and your loved ones peace of mind.

With our partners Bequeathed, we can offer a free Will writing service to ensure you leave the legacy that matters most to you.

How does the free Will writing service work?

The CWGF/Bequeathed free Will writing service process is simple:

  1. Register online
  2. Complete the online Will interview
  3. Receive online legal advice and recommendations
  4. Book a free legal appointment
  5. Decide to go ahead with a free basic Will or include additional protection
  6. Get your Will delivered straight to your inbox, alongside instructions and advice

Firstly, just head to the CWGF Bequeathed page and register.

You will then be asked to complete a short Will interview, giving Bequeathed a better understanding of your circumstances and legacy wishes. This should take no more than 20 minutes.

Bequeathed also has hundreds of guidance articles and online support to help you plan your Will, what to include, and how the process works. Be sure to check those if you have any questions or queries.

Once you’ve completed your Will interview, you will receive online legal advice tailored to your circumstances by Bequeath’s in-house solicitor, including recommendations on what to include in your Will.

Following this, you can book a free legal appointment to discuss Beqeath’s recommendations in more detail. Then you can decide to go ahead with a free basic Will or explore other options. If the free Will meets your circumstances and requirements, it can be delivered directly to your email inbox.

Whatever your decision, you’ll receive your Will along with instructions on signing it correctly in front of witnesses.

You’ll also receive a Letter of Advice summarising everything you’ve been told and setting out what your Will does and doesn’t do.

Please consider leaving a gift to the CWGF when you make your Will. Your generosity will help us to carry on our vital work long into the future.

What does leaving a legacy in your Will mean to the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation?

We understand that when making a Will, taking care of your loved ones will be your priority. Family comes first. There will no doubt be children, grandchildren, and other relatives you will wish to leave something for.

Once you have made arrangements for your loved ones, the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation would be honoured to be included in your legacy.

A gift left to charities like ours has a huge impact on our mission and our work. Your generosity means we can continue telling the stories of the 1.7 million men and women who are commemorated by Commonwealth War Graves.

Their sacrifice and legacy must not be forgotten. Can you help us preserve theirs by leaving a gift for us in your Will?

How will CWGF use your gift?

Our core mission is keeping the memories and stories alive of the Commonwealth men and women who lost their lives in the two World Wars.

The Foundation has numerous projects that help us do exactly that. From the oral histories in Tanzania shining a spotlight on an all too often forgotten part of the World Wars, to the nationwide Eyes On, Hands On war grave maintenance programme, we are committed to telling their stories.

Here’s how your gift can help:

Why leave a legacy in your Will?

Supporters include in their Wills for a variety of reasons:

Importantly, a legacy does not have to be thousands of pounds. It’s whatever you feel comfortable gifting after your loved ones and other priorities have been cared for.

But a gift of any amount could make a real difference to the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation.

Did you know you can also discuss with us how you would like us to use any gift you wanted to leave? It is not always possible for us to use a legacy in the way you might want, but please do speak to us to see what we can do.

If you do not want to leave a gift for the CWGF in your will, we completely understand. If that’s the case, why not become a member to support us year-round or make a donation?
