It’s International Day of Charity! Here’s how you can support the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation
Today marks International Day of Charity. Here’s how you can support the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation today and all days.
International Day of Charity
What is International Day of Charity?
International Day of Charity is a global initiative created by the United Nations.
Its aim is to promote and grow social responsibility around the world by encouraging people to support their favourite charitable causes.
The day, 5 September, was chosen to mark the passing of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Mother Teresa was known worldwide for her commitment to overcoming poverty in a life devoted entirely to charity.
Inspired, the UN started this day. The generosity of others continues to inspire and move us here at the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation and we’re proud to get behind the International Day of Charity.
Through the support of our incredible members, volunteers, partners, and contributors, we’re able to keep the stories of the Commonwealth’s war dead alive for generations to come.
How can you support the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation?

- £10 could pay the cost of travel for a tour guide or speaker to a venue
- £22 could pay for a full cleaning kit for one of our Eyes On, Hands On volunteers
- £39 could pay for one of our volunteer speakers to deliver an inspiring talk to a school or youth group
- £100 could pay to fully train one of our Guides ready for their experience of working abroad so they are best able to welcome visitors, share the incredible stories of those we commemorate, and help assist visitors on their journey of remembrance

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation: We Tell Their Stories
The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation’s core mission is to engage and educate the public to raise awareness of the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and tell the stories of the men and women we commemorate.
Millions of men and women lost their lives in two epoch-defining conflicts during the World Wars. Their experiences, trials and tragedies are equal parts humbling and moving and we feel their memories can never be forgotten.
Commonwealth War Graves commemorates over 1.7m men and women from around the world. Each one of those has a story. You can help us tell them.
