Why you should support the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation in 2024

An exciting new year is ahead of us. Here’s why you should support a charity like the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation in 2024.

Supporting the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation

You can help us with our core mission

A pair of Commonwealth War Graves speakers holding a talk to a group of schoolchildren in front of the Tower Hill Memorial.

We tell, share, and preserve the memories and stories of the Commonwealth’s war dead of the First and Second World Wars.

We also support the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission through lots of different education and outreach initiatives, and projects to inform the public on our important work.

We believe the sacrifices made by those who fell in the World Wars should never be forgotten. With your help, we can do just that.

Ways you can support the CWGF this year

Take part in a virtual challenge like no other

Walking our War Graves: Normandy returns in 2024, marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings: one of the most dramatic moments of world history.

Our virtual fundraising challenge asks you to virtually cover 95km, following in the soldier’s footsteps through Normandy, stopping off at battlefields and CWGC cemeteries and memorials on the path they took eighty years ago.

Cover the distance however you like: from a sponsored swim to a few lengthy dog walks, or get your bike out and go for a ride.

Walking our War Graves has raised £20,000 in support of the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation.

Will you take up the challenge in 2024 and help us raise more? Stay tuned for more details.

Come to a Commonwealth War Graves Foundation event

Each year, we put on various events around the country where we come together with our supporters for intimate evenings and days of shared remembrance.

Our two flagship events are An Evening at Brookwood and our Christmas Carol Service.

An Evening at Brookwood is a special concert held within the grounds of Brookwood Military Cemetery.

We’ve welcomed performers from around the Commonwealth to share stories, sing songs, and come together for commemoration on a beautiful summer evening.

Previous performers have included legendary folk singer Richard Digence and award-winning trio Harp and a Monkey.

Our Christmas Carol Service is a more intimate affair, held at the beautiful Guards’ Chapel, London. Services and readings are delivered by some very special guests, as well as hymns and songs sung.

Over the years, we have hosted some incredible VIPs and CWGF supporters, including War Horse author Michael Morpurgo, million-selling singer and actor Barbara Dickson, broadcaster Gyles Brandreth and leading physician and broadcaster Dr Hilary Jones MBE.

Visit our Events page for more information on upcoming events.
