An Evening at Brookwood – Another Beautiful Evening of Remembrance

All of us at the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to all our acts, staff, volunteers and our wonderful guests at this year’s An Evening at Brookwood event.

This was the second year that an event like this took place, and we’re pleased that it was once again a huge success.

Concertgoers watch a harpist playing on the rotunda of the Brookwood Memorial in Brookwood Military Cemetery. The white stone rotunda is flanked by various species of green tree under a blue sky featuring wispy white clouds.

We welcomed nearly 300 families, history lovers and CWGF supporters from across the country to Brookwood Military Cemetery. On the agenda was an amazing programme of music from local and national performers, as well as military vehicles, demonstrations by our talented operational staff and some tasty refreshments.

“An Evening at Brookwood was an amazing experience and brilliant achievement for everyone involved,” Director of the Foundation, Michele Jennings, said. “It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the evening and it was every bit as moving and special as we had hoped.”

Following opening remarks from our Chair of Trustees, Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, the event began with a moving performance by harpist Milo Harper. His set included some iconic musical pieces and really set the mood for the evening.

This was then followed by the award-winning folk trio Harp and a Monkey, who utilised their incredible songwriting and storytelling that was popular at last year’s event to connect the audience with the stories of the ordinary men and women caught up in the extraordinary times conflict causes.

We were then welcomed back after the interval with a rousing performance by comedian, author and songwriter Richard Digance, whose performance from the last night at the Proms made the event extra special. Richard connected his set to the incredible stories from more recent conflicts, including the Falklands Campaign.

The finale was provided by Surrey Wing’s Royal Air Force Air Cadets, whose band undertook their first marching performance since its latest formation. Playing popular marching songs, their set connected us to the next generation and honoured those who continue to serve in the Armed Forces today.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our event sponsors Venson Automotive Solutions, and PPLRS for providing us with a musical licence for the event.

Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who came and took part. We hope to see you next year!
