What is Legacy of Liberation?

2024 marks 80 years since some of the Second World War’s most important events, battles, and campaigns.

Legacy of Liberation marks these moments and the work of Commonwealth War Graves in commemorating those killed in this world-changing conflict.

We will commemorate these events in the UK and Europe, including major events to mark D-Day in June.

Of course, D-Day, while momentous, is just one part of the wider effort to end the Second World War. Other significant events with 80th Anniversaries this 
year include:

• The Great Escape
• The Battle of Kohima & Imphal
• Operation Market Garden

As well as the history, Legacy of Liberation will look at Commonwealth War Graves’ vital role in commemorating the men and women who lost their lives during the last 18 months of the year.
