Launch of the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation as a Charity in Scotland

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation team would like to say a huge thank you to all of our volunteers and guests who attended the formal launch of the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation as a registered charity in Scotland.

It was the first event of its kind, and it was a privilege to welcome guests to the splendid surroundings of the Great Hall at Edinburgh Castle. A huge thank you to Major General Alastair Bruce, Governor of Edinburgh Castle and Foundation Trustee, for hosting the event.

Launching CWGF in Scotland is a significant milestone, as the Foundation will now be an officially registered charity there, allowing us to raise funds to ensure our vital commemorative and education work through the Foundation, and specifically in Scotland, continues .

We welcomed over 130 individuals who had travelled the length and breadth of Scotland to attend this prestigious event.

From members of the Armed Forces, consulate representatives, local and national politicians and university, school and youth group representatives, it was wonderful to share the stories of some of the casualties remembered by the CWGC who are connected to Scotland.

“The launch of the Commonwealth War Graves Foundation in Scotland was a fantastic event, added to by the incredibly picturesque surroundings we were hosted in,” said Michele Jennings, the Director of the Foundation, Volunteering and Outreach at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. “It was wonderful to meet so many likeminded people, and to share the stories that connect the rich military history of Scotland. The evening was every bit as special as we had hoped for.”
